I qualified as a teacher in 1980 & since then have worked in a range of settings, including various London comprehensive schools, Adult Education, a Secure Unit & a Pupil Referral Unit in a variety of different roles.
I have taught English (to ‘A’ level), Media (to Level 3 GNVQ) & Drama (to GCSE). My teaching roles have included: Head of Department, Head of House, SENCO ( Special Educational Needs Coordinator ), Deputy Head Teacher & most recently Headteacher.
One of my passions is working with young people with challenging behaviour, through which I have developed an awareness and understanding of many of the issues that cause students to become disengaged with their learning & demotivated by failure. I very much enjoy working with young people who simply need a helping hand to get them back on the path to success.
I have worked for two of the largest English examination boards in different capacities for more than 20 years.
I was an inter-school assessor for English & English Literature GCSE coursework in the 80s & early 90s. Since 1994, I have been a senior examiner for one of the GCSE English exams and have examined both Foundation & Higher tiers.Since 2001, I have written a number of national exam papers for Key Skills Communication & Adult Literacy.
I have also written test questions for on-line practice tests & a number of supporting grammar guides.
My work in the field of examinations is ongoing, providing me with up to date knowledge of what is required to be successful in exams.
