Functional Skills

From 2010, if you are taking a Diploma it will not be possible to obtain a pass without also passing the Level 2 qualification in English Functional Skills! Many schools and colleges will be offering qualifications in Functional Skills as well as in GCSE.

The skills acquired enable students to apply their knowledge and understanding to everyday life and to engage competently and confidently with others.To obtain a Level 2 pass, students will have to independently engage with complex tasks in both familiar and unfamiliar situations and demonstrate a range of reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, with a high level of technical accuracy.

Tuition will cover the range of skills necessary to obtain a pass at Level 2, including a variety of tasks that will help students to recognise techniques used by different writers, thus developing the ability to use these skills effectively themselves.
