A RANGE OF TUITION TAILORED TO YOUR INDIVIDUAL NEEDS

KS4 English

When working towards GCSE English, students need to develop their skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening.

All the examination boards have the same assessment areas and objectives, although there are differences in how each component is assessed, i.e. coursework or final examination. At the moment, 40% of the marks are gained through coursework (Reading and Writing 20% & Speaking and Listening 20%) and the remaining 60% of the marks through exams. This is the same for all four of the major exam boards, although there will be changes in 2010. Information about the new GCSEs will be added shortly.

It is particularly important that students not only work hard on their coursework, but also develop their examination technique so that they are fully prepared to answer the questions in the final exams. This is why extra tuition can be invaluable. You will have an individual programme based on your own particular needs that will enable you to develop skills in all aspects of English. This will be designed to focus on the areas identified from the initial assessment at the start of the course.

In GCSE English Literature, students read and write about a diverse range of texts, including prose, poetry and drama published both before and after 1914. It is possible to include Literature tuition if requested.
